August 2025

We're inviting you to celebrate the region’s unique industrial landscape, and the communities who helped shape it, by entering our photography competition.

As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, we're inviting photo submissions to share the spirit of Clay Country and its history.

Prizes are up for grabs for entries into the following categories:

Exploring Wheal Martyn – Capture your adventures and discoveries whilst exploring the museum and grounds.

Clay Country Nature & Landscapes – Show off the beautiful scenery and diversity of wildlife in Cornwall's Clay Country.

Clay Country People & Community – Highlight the vibrant spirit of the people who call the Clay Country home.

Clay Country Industrial Heritage – Photograph the enduring legacy and striking structures of the china clay industry.

Colin Vallance, Managing Director of Wheal Martyn, said: “Since its foundation in 1975, Wheal Martyn has proudly safeguarded, showcased and inspired people with the heritage of one of Cornwall’s most important industries. Clay mining, its people and its landscapes still play such an important part in life in our area today and we are keen for the public to share what this special landscape and community means to them.

“Wishing everyone good luck and we can’t wait to see your entries!”

The competition is free to enter and is open from Friday 1 August to Sunday 2 November. Click here for information about how to enter.
