Hidden in amongst the woods at Wheal Martyn you will find our new Art Trail, celebrating nature’s offerings around our beautiful grounds.

Last summer, a team of nine talented young artists set about their Silver Arts Award Leadership Project. The young artists are from Wheal Martyn’s Home Educated Group, aged from 11 to 15 years. Their aim was to celebrate the magnificent wildlife of Wheal Martyn’s woodlands and historic site, and raise awareness of threats to biodiversity and habitat destruction. They chose to create an art trail for the public to enjoy as they stroll around the site.

Along the Nature Trail you can find 9 art installations, including stunning watercolours, printing, woodwork and rock art. Each piece focus’ on one species that you can find here at Wheal Martyn, revealing intriguing details about the habitat, the species and all its glorious quirks!

As part of the Silver Arts Award, the 9 young people launched their Art Trail to the Home Educated Group, taking families out along the trail, challenging participants with creative activities along the way, and finally, delivering an Art Workshop to share some of their artistic talents. This included wildflower papermaking, Be-Corns and animal portrait printmaking. The event was a big hit with all the visiting families.

The 2025 Wheal Martyn Arts Award Programme was a great success, with all 9 of these young artists gaining their Silver Arts Award, and 2 young people gaining their Bronze Arts Award. Congratulations to them all for all their hard work and creativity!

The 2026 Arts Award Programme will soon be underway!
