As part of our celebrations and exhibition of the centenary of the Bugle Band Contest we are delighted to have Redruth Town Band doing a free performance on our café terrace. Redruth Town Band is one of Cornwall’s oldest brass bands, with roots dating back over 200 years and references to musicians in the town as early as 1828. Proudly representing the historic mining town of Redruth, the band has been part of the community for generations — performing at civic events, concerts, contests, remembrance services and community celebrations across Cornwall.

From leading historic processions in the 1830s to entertaining audiences today, the band continues to preserve Cornwall’s rich brass band tradition while welcoming new generations of players. Completely charity-driven, Redruth Town Band combines musical excellence with community spirit, friendship and inclusion.

Currently competing as a Third Section band, we rehearse weekly on a Wednesday in Redruth and perform a varied programme of traditional brass band music alongside modern favourites. We are also launching our new progressive training band, creating opportunities for new and returning players of all ages and abilities to learn, develop and enjoy music together.

Passionate, supportive and proud of our heritage, we are #notjustanyband.

Normal museum admission fees apply to visit the 'MORE CORNISH THAN MAY DAY' Bugle Band Contest centenary exhibition.
